Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Hao led the Malaysian march into the Kumamoto Master quarter-finals after dispatching their opponents in three games to advance.

Leong was first through after the national shuttler overcame Koki Watanabe 21-10, 16-21, 21-13.

The world number 31 built on his first round shock win over India's Lakshya Sen on Wednesday, especially in the third game where he dominated the Japanese.

Leong will go on to face second seeded Kodai Naraoka on Friday and will need to be prepared to withstand long rallies against the Japanese.

Lee, meanwhile, came through after a 19-21, 21-8, 21-16 win over Chinese Taipei's Su li-yang.

The Paris Olympics bronze medalist, who beat Justin Hoh in three tough games on Wednesday, should have won more comfortably against Su.

But with a 20-9 lead in the deciding game, Lee conceded seven points before finally getting over the line.
He will go on to face either Rasmus Gemke or Jonatan Christie for a place in the semi-finals.

In the men's doubles, Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong stunned their in-form compatriots Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin 21-9, 23-21 to face Korea Masters runners-up Chiu Hsiang-hsieh-Wang Chi-lin.

Chiu-Wang had earlier avenged last Sunday's final loss against Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik with a 21-11, 21-13 victory.

Other matches saw national mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin also come through to Friday's action after beating Indonesian seventh seeds Hoo Pang Ron-Pitha Haningtyas Mentari 18-21, 24-22, 21-10.

The pair who have been delivering good results recently will be up against accomplished Thais Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran.

Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai, who have won two titles this year, beat their Chinese opponents in straight games to setup a last eight clash against Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito.
