Korea Masters: Joo Ven to face Momota in quarterfinals
It will be a tale of two men’s singles shuttlers trying to regain some redemption when Soong Joo Ven faces former world champion Kento Momota in the quarter-finals of the Korea Masters on Friday.
Malaysia’s Soong has struggled for form this year.
He even received death threats on social media earlier this year for allegedly fixing matches, after he crashed out in the early rounds of competitions.

But on Thursday, the world number 79 did well to oust South Korea’s Jeon Hyeok-jin 7-21, 21-14, 21-17 to setup the showdown against Momota.
The Japanese is also trying to find his way back after an injury setback which has left him out of action since the Australian Open back in August.
Leong Jun Hao, who clinched the KL Masters title on Sunday, is also through after his Finnish opponent conceded a walkover in the second game.
Leong will go on to face China’s Lei Lan Xi for a place in the semi-finals.
Malaysia’s mixed doubles contingent continued to do well, with three pairs booking their berths in Friday’s action at the Gwangju Women’s University Stadium.
Fourth seeds Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei beat compatriots Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin 21-9, 21-8 to face Chiu Hsiang-chieh-Lin Xiao-min, while Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai also won in straight games.
The fifth seeds will have a tougher time against South Koreans Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun, who easily beat Yap Roy King-Valeree Siow.
Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing meanwhile came through a bruising contest to setup a showdown against Chinese second seeds Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin.
Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin ensured Malaysia’s interest in the men’s doubles with a straight games success over Chiu Hsiang-chieh-Yang Ming-tse whom they beat 21-14, 21-18.
The fifth seeds, however, have their work cut out for them against top seeds Kang Min-hyuk-Seo seung-jae in the last eight.
