Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik checked into the Korea Masters quarter-finals after they posted a straight game 21-18, 21-17 victory over former South Korean world champions Ko Sung-hyun-Shin Baek-cheol on Thursday.
Chia-Soh are top seeds in this Super 300 event and are looking to win the men’s doubles title at the Iksan City where the tournament is hosted.
So far, the Malaysians have not managed to build on from their Paris Olympics success where they came from the brink of defeat to secure a second consecutive Olympic bronze medal.
Soh also suffered a toe fracture shortly after the Olympics and is still feeling his way back into full competitive mode, but on Thursday both men were clinical against the South Korean veterans.
Chia-Soh wrapped up victory after 32-minutes, and will go on to face either a Chinese Taipei or South Korean pair for a place in the semi-finals.
In the men’s singles, Jacky Kok’s interest ended after the national shuttler fell to a 20-22, 14-21 defeat against Japan’s Takuma Obayashi.
