Kirsty Gilmour would have been dreaming about her moment on Sunday when she forayed into professional badminton, the day she would go on to hog the biggest headline in the sport with a title.
The Scot became the women’s singles champion of the SaarLorLux Open after she brushed aside Germany’s Yvonne Li 21-10, 21-17.

Gilmour’s chance of winning this tournament was forthcoming after she fought gallantly to oust reigning Olympic champion Carolina Marin 22-20, 21-14 in the semi-finals on Saturday.
“Ending this year with a win! So happy with what I brought to the court. Everything I’ve been working on came together and I’m one happy gal. It’s a privilege to be back out competing internationally. Thanks to everyone who makes that possible,” said Gilmour after the win.
