Jonassen believes in 'fireworks' if Tze Yong, Jun Hao, Justin train together daily
National singles head coach Kenneth Jonassen firmly believes there could be ‘fireworks’ if Ng Tze Yong, Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh can train together consistently on a daily basis.
Speaking to news portal Scoop, the new Danish coach said the idea of all national top players training together daily was based on his time with the Denmark national team.
“If we can get these three players as a collective to work on a daily basis, then potentially fireworks. This is what created the best players in Denmark. Top players train together on a daily basis and we move as a collective.
“When Viktor Axelsen was growing up, he had the likes of Jan O Jorgensen & Hans-Kristian Vittinghus there. And Anders Antonsen just came in the back of that.
“So if we can have all players healthy over a long period of time, not just 1-3 months. It’s 6-12 months a year, two years and so on. If our junior players see the same, then we can develop a system that not potentially just delivers one, but a lot of players over time,” Jonassen told Scoop.
The issue hampering all three players doing so is the fitness of Ng, who has not featured competitively since January last year when he injured his lower back.
But the 24-year-old has recently returned to full training and is aiming to make his long-awaited competitive return by April.
Jonassen himself admitted he is looking forward to seeing what Ng can deliver, having been away for so long.
As for Leong and Hoh, both men recently featured at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, but only played once each as Malaysia was knocked out in the group stage.
Leong did well to win his match against Indonesia’s Yohannes Marcellyno, while Hoh lost in straight games to Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu.
