Goh Jin Wei is resigned to the fact she will be heading to the Paris Olympics without her coach Nova Armada, saying even though she appreciates Rexy Mainaky by her side it will not be the same without a familiar face.
“I have to adapt to this situation. Coach Rexy is extremely experienced and he’s also an Olympic champion. But for me, it's best to have my own coach because he guides me daily in training and he’s been with me for the last three years.
“To be honest, I’m forced to accept this situation. I have already tried my best to fight for my rights,” said Goh when met at her training centre on Friday.
The women’s singles shuttler will not have Nova by her side due to limited accreditations for the Malaysian contingent.
As it stands, the 24-year-old who is preparing to make her Olympics debut will have to make do with Rexy’s assistance.
While the 1996 Olympic gold medalist can offer his insights, it will simply not be the same as Nova is the man who knows Goh’s game inside out, from her preparations, strategy to her strengths and weaknesses.
Goh also indicated she may be resigned to do her match post-mortem with fellow professional shuttler Lee Zii Jia or any other women’s singles players who may be competing in Paris without their coach.
The world number 33 is scheduled to leave for the Paris Olympics on July 23.
