Goh Jin Wei admitted she was lost for words to describe her return from retirement after she completed her comeback at the Korea Open and Korea Masters.
After reversing her retirement decision and despite not playing competitively for almost a year, Goh defied all odds to reach the quarter-finals of the Korea Open, and later cleared her opening match at the Korea Masters.
“I’m speechless to describe how I felt [after returning]. Words can’t really describe it. When your second home is in a hospital, you’re never expecting to do this again [play again].
“To be able to stand on the court again, the feeling is awesome. I never expected this at all, much less even dared dream about it. To be able to fight for the country again, and play against good players, it feels like a dream.
“It felt nervous and strange, since I had been away for so long. I was also excited, but at the same time nervous and afraid that I was not good enough. Now I just need to work harder and focus on my training,” she said.
Goh had been battling a stomach ailment and, in 2019, underwent a colectomy surgery where part of her colon was removed.
Since then, the two-time world junior champion had struggled to return to her best, as she was under a lot of medication that severely derailed her performance in training which ultimately led to her premature retirement.
Goh also explained her total expenditure for the two tournaments in South Korea amounted to RM13,000.
“In truth, it is not expensive as this expense was two tournaments. In Europe, we spent RM13,000 in a week,” she added.
The world number 77 has also been included in the Uber Cup assignment in Bangkok next month.
According to ranking, she could be fielded as the second women's singles player behind S. Kisona.
