Pemain perseorangan negara, Lee Zii Jia, gagal mencipta kebangkitan apabila tewas dalam tiga set kepada pemain Taiwan, Chou Tien Chen.
Zii Jia yang diletakkan dalam Kumpulan A memulakan saingan menentang pilihan ketiga, Tien Chen.
Selepas beraksi hambar dalam dua kejohanan Terbuka Thailand, Zii Jia tampak mahu mencipta kebangkitan dalam pertemuan ini.
Pada awalnya terutama dalam set pertama, Zii Jia gagal mempamer permainan kemas dengan banyak kesilapan serta gagal membalas pukulan lawan hingga perlawanan berkesudahan 21-16.
Mempertingkatkan permainan dalam set kedua, Zii Jia lebih agresif dengan pukulan kencang sebelum mengutip mata demi mata sebelum menang 21-12.
Aksi set penentuan jelas sekali tidak memihak kepada Zii Jia apabila Tien Chen kembali menemui sentuhan untuk meninggalkan jauh pemain malaysia itu pada kedudukan 15-10.
Zii jia hanya mampu kutip satu mata sahaja lagi sebelum perjuangannya ditamatkan Tien Chen untuk kemenangan 21-11.
