Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of compatriots Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi at the Japan Open first round on Wednesday.
Chia-Soh have been one of the in-form men's pair in the world, having won three titles in the first six months of 2025.

But the world number two pair were simply outclassed by Ong-Teo, who coasted to a comfortable 21-15, 21-15 victory in 30-minutes.
Another men's doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun needed extra time in the first game to overcome Junaidi Arif-Yap Roy King 30-28, before taking the second game 21-12.
They will next face Chinese pair Huang Di-Liu Yang in the second round.
In the women's doubles, Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah were also comfortable to beat Bulgarian sisters Gabriela-Stefani Stoeva 21-16, 21-14 and the third seeds will next face opponents from Chinese Taipei.
In the morning session, mixed doubles pairs Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei advanced to the next round after a straight game victory over their opponents.
