Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Soong Joo Ven were among Malaysian shuttlers who booked their spots in the main draw of the Malaysia Masters after Tuesday's qualifying stage.
Iskandar, who secured a last-minute entry into the tournament, got past France's Lucas Corvee 21-6, 18-21, 21-17 and Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 15-21, 21-15, 21-8 to attempt reaching the final again after doing so in 2016, where he lost to Lee Chong Wei.
Meanwhile, world No. 66 Soong benefitted from Fikri Ihsandi Hadmadi's first qualifying round retirement before dispatching Sony Dwi Kuncoro 21-19, 21-10 in straight sets.
Another national singles shuttler, Liew Daren, will join them in the main draw after overcoming compatriot Cheam June Wei 21-18, 21-19 and Kim Bruun of Denmark 21-16, 13-21, 21-7.
Besides Cheam, the other Malaysian men's shuttler to crash out was Lim Chi Wing, who was beaten by Thomas Rouxel 20-22, 13-21.
In the women's singles, Lim Yin Fun and Lee Ying Ying secured their progression by beating Yulia Yosephin Susanto and Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky respectively.
From qualifying doubles events, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (men's), Lim Wah Khim (men's; partnering South Korea's Yoo Yeon Seong), Goh Yea Ching-Teoh Mei Xing (women's), Lim Chiew Sien-Yap Zhen (women's), and Chen Tang Jie-Cheah Yee See (mixed) completed the Malaysian line-up.
