Indonesia Open: Aaron-Wooi Yik overcome South Koreans to reach quarter-finals

Malaysia men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik attributed their calmness as key a factor to securing a quarter-finals berth at the Indonesia Open after beating South Korea’s Choi Sol-gyu-Kim Won-ho 21-19, 21-16.
The Malaysians had trailed for the majority of the first game, at one stage 14-18, before rallying back to nick ahead of their opponents for the lead.
Chia-Soh were more commanding in the second game to seal the win that put them in the last eight against Japan’s Akira Koga-Taichi Sato.

“It was tough in the first game and we needed to be calm to make the comeback. Winning that first game really gave us confidence. Now we’ll go out and give our best in the quarter-finals,” they said.

The world number three pair were the only Malaysians left in the competition after two other pairs crashed out.
Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi did their best against Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin, but ultimately lost 20-22, 17-21 in a battle of quickfire badminton.
Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing were upstaged 17-21, 16-21 by another Indonesian pair Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.
