Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Ng Tze Yong were among Malaysian shuttlers booking their second-round tickets at the Indonesia Masters on Wednesday with the national contingent continuing their hunt for a maiden title in 2023.

Last week’s India Open beaten finalists Chia-Soh needed only 30 minutes to beat fellow Malaysians Boon Xin Yuan-Wong Tien Ci 21-14, 21-9 in a dominant performance.

“It wasn’t a difficult game, as we had prepared for them. It was a good win, but more importantly we want to keep going in the coming match,” said the pair, who next play their India Open conquerors Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chan.

The Chinese pair beat the world champions in a closely fought encounter last Sunday to deny the Malaysians their maiden World Tour title.

Ng Tze Yong, meanwhile, bounced back from last week’s early exit after he tamed Danish veteran Hans-Kristian Vittinghus 21-7, 21-14 in 36 minutes.

Ng’s youth proved the defining factor in this duel, as the 21-year-old worked the Dane 16-years his senior all over the court throughout the match.

Hans tried his level best to slow down the match, but Ng was in his element to leave little room for error to coast to victory.

Ng should have a tougher second-round affair against seventh seed Lakshya Sen, who easily overcame Malaysia Open finalist Kodai Naraoka in straight games.

Mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai also earned themselves a much needed victory, beating Danes Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje 23-21, 21-6 to set up a match with Mathias Thyrri-Amalie Magelund next.

The other Malaysians in action - Lee Zii Jia and Cheam June Wei – are due to face their opponents in the wee hours of Thursday.
