Goh Jin Wei questioned the timing of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to not register her for any tournaments, declaring the national body had no issues when she tendered her resignation last September.
“They have already accepted my resignation last year in September. There had been no objection at all for so long, and why now only there’s an issue? Secondly, how come I could register for the Syed Modi India Open (January 18-23)?
“Just because I have given my respect to the national body, I agreed for them to pull my name out from the tournament first, before I sat down with the management to discuss my plans.
“So how did I manage to register [for Syed Modi] beforehand? It means I have the right to play, and I’m not breaching any policies. Thirdly, refusing to register me for any international tournaments for the next two years is effectively banning me from competing internationally.
“This will affect my livelihood. Badminton is the only skill-set I know and it’s my job. How am I going to survive then?
“Based on my health history and condition, I can’t give full commitment to undergo rigorous training. Everyone, including my ex-teammates, coaches and management know that I want to train and play at my own pace, and monitor my health at the same time.
“No one knows of the side effects from the medication I’m bearing daily, except me and my family. But still I strive my best to pursue my dream. I’m sure I can still bring glory for Malaysia again.
“I don’t know what I have done wrong to be banned from international tournaments for two years despite me giving my best for the country,” lamented the two-time world junior champion.
The BAM meted out their verdict on Goh after deeming her turning her back on them after initially showing interest to return to the national setup as an mixed doubles shuttler.
But they claimed she was indecisive with her decision and eventually signed with the Kuala Lumpur Racquet Club.
Youth & Sports Minister Faizal Azumu is likely to meet both Goh and Lee Zii Jia and BAM soon, and it is understood he would propose a lift on the ban to the shuttlers.
Meanwhile a petition called ‘Don’t Ban Lee Zii Jia & Goh Jin Wei’ has already garnered close to 120,000 signatures by the public.
