So how did Tan-Thinaah ascend the world rankings again, to be stationed as the world’s second top pair?

It was due to a big performance from the Thailand Open champions at two recent big competitions.

At the Japan Open, Tan-Thinaah went all the way to the final before they were outclassed by world number one Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning.

Despite the loss to the Olympic silver medalists, the Malaysians accumulated 9,350 points by virtue of making a Super 750 final.

A week later, the duo collected even more points.

This time it was at the China Open, where they reached the semi-finals before losing to another Chinese pair.

But despite that defeat, Tan-Thinaah amassed 9,500 points because the China Open is a Super 1000 event.

The pair are currently on 89, 416 points, and while they may not surpass Liu-Tan anytime soon who are topping the world rankings on 111, 634 points, Tan-Thinaah can continue to cement their second place position.

Next up is the World Championships in Paris next month, and if Tan-Thinaah can embark on another strong run, they will continue to collect mega world ranking points.

Champions at the world champs will collect 14,500 points, while second place awards 12,500 points.
