Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik suffered a shock defeat to crash out of the Hong Kong Open first round after the tournament’s top seeds lost in straight games on Tuesday.
The world number two men’s doubles pair came into this Super 500 event hoping for a better run than the World Championships which saw them lose in the quarter-finals.

But instead, Chia-Soh proved no match for English pair Ben Lane-Sean Vendy and suffered a tame 13-21, 13-21 defeat after just 28-minutes.
Their defeat will come as a shock, as the Malaysians have been one of the world’s in-form pair with three titles to their names this year.
Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri had no such issues, as they moved into the men’s doubles main draw with a 21-19, 23-21 victory over their Hong Kong opponents.
Choong-Haikal will face South Korean pair Kim Gi-jung-Kim Sa-rang in the first round.
In the men’s singles, both Justin Hoh and Aidil Sholeh did well to win both their qualifying matches to make it to the main draw.
Hoh will face Frenchman Toma Junior Popov in the first round on Wednesday, while Aidil takes on Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-jen.
