Hong Kong Open: Indonesia Masters champions Roy King-Valeree into main draw
Malaysia mixed doubles pair Yap Roy King-Valeree Siow built on their recent success at the Indonesia Masters by checking into the main draw of the Hong Kong Open.
Yap-Siow were impressive after they came from a game down to clinch the Super 100 title in Medan last Sunday, and at the Hong Kong Coliseum on Tuesday they racked up a straight game 21-16, 21-11 victory over a home pair.
The world number 50 are among six Malaysian mixed doubles pairs in action in this Super 500 event, with a date against England’s Gregory-Jenny Mairs to come.

Yap almost made it a double header success in the men’s doubles, but he and partner went down valiantly fighting against three-time world champions Hendra Setiawan-Mohammad Ahsan.
National men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao also did well to win both his qualifying matches on Tuesday to earn a spot in the tournament proper, when he finds himself against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-yi.
In the women’s singles qualifiers, S. Kisona returned to winning ways to make the main cut and book a promising showdown against Singaporean Yeo Jia Min.
Chia Weijie-Liew Xun also made it to the men’s doubles first round, but they will have defending Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin to contend against.
As for first round matches, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah needed three games before prevailing against Germans Linda Efler-Isabel Lohau 21-10, 16-21, 21-14.
They could potentially face team-mates Teoh Mei Xing-Anna Cheong should the pair beat their Chinese Taipei opponents.
It was early showers for Cheam June Wei (men’s singles), Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien (women’s doubles), Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong and Beh Chun Meng-Goh Boon Zhe (men’s doubles) who all exited.
