Malaysian badminton made history on Tuesday (June 10) by possessing the top two men’s doubles pair on the BWF World Tour rankings.
In the latest rankings released by the world body, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin maintained their world number one ranking with 91,090 points.
Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik climbed one spot into second place with 89, 870 points to overtake Danish pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and create history for Malaysia’s beloved sport.
It was no surprise to see Chia-Soh in the top bracket, as the Asian champions have been on a roll since April.
After winning the Badminton Asia Championships without dropping a game, Chia-Soh went on to reach three finals in three weeks.
First they won the Thailand Open, before reaching the Malaysia Masters final.
They capped their phenomenal run by clinching the Singapore Open title earlier this month.
It was a memorable day for the country’s women’s doubles too, as Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah climbed to third on the world rankings.
In doing so, the Indonesia Open silver medalist becomes the first Malaysian women’s doubles pair to reach the world top three rank in 16-years.
The last Malaysian pair to do it was Chin Ee Hui-Wong Pei Tty back in 2009.
