Herry IP set to analyze players' current training methods

The national men’s doubles shuttlers can gradually expect a different training programme under their new coach Herry Iman Pierngadi who is easing into his role since taking charge this month.
Popularly known as Herry IP, the Indonesian handler comes with high regards having led Indonesian pairs such Chandra Wijaya-Tony Gunawan, Ricky Subagja-Rexy Mainaky and most recently Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan to achieve a plethora of silverware during their playing careers.
The 62-year-old has ventured away from his country to take up the responsibility of grooming arguably the most promising department within the national setup.

Pierngadi is not about to make wholesale changes right away, but has promised to gradually stamp his mark in the shuttlers’ playing styles.
“For now, I want to evaluate the players’ current training programme and see what needs to be changed. In due time, my plan is to change the training styles to suit myself and the players.
“From my observation, the Malaysian shuttlers are talented. This is good, but my hope is that their discipline levels and motivation are also high. When the players are happy, they will be more motivated and receptive to their training,” said Pierngadi.
His immediate task will be at the upcoming Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships in China from Feb 11-16.
Recent Indonesia Masters champions Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Yap Roy King-Junaidi Arif will form the men’s doubles representatives to face Indonesia and Hong Kong in the group stage.
Like Malaysia, Indonesia have also chosen to rest some of their big names.
Shohibul Fikri-Daniel Marthin and Yeremia Rambitan-Rahmat Hidayat will form both Indonesia’s men’s pairs.
