Malaysia’s men’s singles coach Hendrawan wants Lee Zii Jia to adapt quickly to court conditions at the Denmark Open if he intends another big name upset.
In the first round on Wednesday, the Kedahan is set to do battle with fifth seed Chen Long for the third time this year.
He beat the Chinese star at the Indonesia Open in July, and suffered a narrow loss at last month’s China Open.
"What happened in Indonesia was different from China, and the situation in Denmark will be different too.
"[The wind] drifts in the court, the temperature, they all play a part. Lee has to acclimatise as quickly as possible.
"If you want to beat top players like Chen Long, you have to go into battle with the right mindset and be prepared for anything," said Hendrawan.
Lee managed to appear in nine quarter-finals on the world tour circuit this year so far, and is now 15th on the world rankings.
Should he manage a second win over the Olympic champion this year, a meeting with either Japanese Kanta Tsuneyama or India’s Sameer Verma awaits.
In the men’s doubles, there will be at least one Malaysian pair in the second round as Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik take on team-mates Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi.
Meanwhile, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong face Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan.
For women's singles shuttler Soniia Cheah, she is surely aiming to improve on her lackluster performances of late when she takes on South Korea’s Kim Ga-eun.
In the women’s doubles, Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean are in action against France’s Delphine Delrue-Lea Palermo, while Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen meet Indonesians Greysia Polli-Apriyani Rahayu.
Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, the only seeded Malaysian shuttlers in Denmark, face Japan’s Kohei Gondo-Ayane Kurihara in the first round.
Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai are the other Malaysian pairs involved in the mixed doubles, going up against Seo Seung-jae-Chae yu-jung and Sam Magee-Chloe Magee respectively.
