It’s the start of a New Year and decade, and Danish shuttler Viktor Axelsen took it upon himself to represent the players on the World Tour Circuit by listing changes he wished the Badminton World Federation (BWF) would make.

In a New Year’s resolution wish, Axelsen pointed out six things he would change if he was an employee for the world body.

"Let’s not push the players to play more tournaments. There is already a lot of tournaments to play.

"I’m sure the players will participate in plenty of tournaments without having to get fined if they skip a few to take care of their body,” said Axelsen via his Facebook page.

The BWF’s ruling makes it compulsory for the top 15 shuttlers to commit to a minimum of 12 World Tour tournaments a year. Failure to show up for an event will result in a US$5,000 (RM20,500) fine.

The world number five also wanted the best umpires to be present and the top events, and felt they should be rewarded with a better pay packet.

Another of Axelsen’s big wishes for 2020 was for shuttlers’ prize winning to be paid to them directly.

The 25-year-old also hoped that tournament days would start on Mondays as opposed to Tuesday, and the order of play would be up earlier.

His sixth and final wish was to implement Hawkeye technology in Super 500 events and above.

This was not the first time Axelsen called out to BWF to change their rulings.

He also voiced his displeasure early last year at the new tournament format and change in service height which came into effect at the start of 2019.

As for his personal ambitions for 2020, Axelsen had his eyes on gold at the Tokyo Olympics come July.

"It’s going to be super hard and tough to do better than 2016, but I believe in myself and you really have to believe that you can achieve your biggest dreams. So that’s what I’m going to do and work hard for it." he added.

Axelsen took home bronze at the 2016 Olympics with victory over Lin Dan.
