National men's doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun provided the early cheer for the Malaysian contingent competing at the French Open by clearing their first round hurdles.
Man-Tee were expected to overcome Kevin Lee-Ty Alexander on paper, and they easily overcame the Canadians 21-16, 21-8 to move into the second round.
It will be a entirely different test altogether when they face top seeded Indian pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty next, and the Malaysians must prepare to tackle the attacking prowess and intensity their opponents will bring.
The rest of the Malaysians in action early Tuesday at the Arena Porte all crashed out.
Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi will know their Paris Olympics tickets are fast fading following a dissapointing straight game loss against Shetty-Rankireddy.
The second men's doubles pair to lose were Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin, who crashed out 19-21, 17-21 against their Chinese Taipei opponents.
In the women's doubles, Goh Jin Wei also lost in straight games against China's Wang Zhi Yi.
