French Open: Pearly-Thinaah reach final after straight-game success

Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah turned on the style with a convincing 21-13, 21-17 victory over South Korean pair Baek Ha-na-Lee So-heecheck into the French Open women’s doubles final.
The Malaysian pair came into this match full of confidence having broken their winless duck over world number three pair Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu that saw them come from behind to win on Friday.
On Saturday, the world number 11 pair were on the offensive throughout the contest, with Thinaah especially playing a star role including a Lee Zii Jia-like backhand smash in the second game.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallists next face Japan’s Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara for the title on Sunday.
In reaching the French Open final, Tan-Thinaah became only the second Malaysian women’s doubles pair to do so after Chin Ee Hui-Wong Pei Tty in 2008.
