Former Malaysian Asian Games badminton medalist charged with two counts of cheating

A former national men’s doubles shuttler was charged with two separate counts of cheating amounting close to RM60,000 at a sessions court on Friday.

For the first charge, Lin Woon Fui was accused of duping an individual by convincing him that he could multiply his money through a non-existent online bet.

Lee then made a transfer of RM28,029 to a bank account of his wife.

On the second charge, Lin convinced the same individual that he could multiply his money through stocks trading, which he did by transferring RM30,000 to Lin’s account.

Both the transactions were made five months apart in 2016.

Lin pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him.

If found guilty, Lin could face a sentence of up to 10 years in jail, whipping and a fine.

The 39-year-old was allowed bail of RM17,000 and also ordered to surrender his passport to the court.

Lin’s professional career highlight saw him achieve a career high fourth rank with Fairuzizuan Tazari.

He also clinched bronze at the 2006 Asian Games, and finished as Malaysia Open runner-up that year.
