Denmark Open: Vivian-Chiew Sien earn first-round win as Malaysia's Arctic Open runners-up fall
Wednesday's early session of the 2023 Denmark Open saw Malaysia women's doubles pair Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien clear the opening round but Arctic Open finalists Ng Tze Yong and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun lost.
Hoo-Lim were made to work for almost 80-minutes before they overcame German pair Linda Efler-Isabel Lohau 21-18, 19-21, 21-17.
The world number 34 duo, who failed to reach the last 16 in their last two events, next face Hong Kong’s Yeung Nga Ting-Pui Lam.
Ng, who lost to Lee Zii Jia at the Arctic Open final last Sunday, was no match against Lu Guang Zu whom he had beaten so comprehensively only last week.
The now world number 17 looked a tired opponent in his 18-21, 11-21 defeat to the Chinese in the 43-minute encounter at the Jyske Bank Arena.
Likewise, Man-Tee also looked lethargic in their 18-21, 16-21 defeat against Japan’s Akira Koga-Taichi Sato.
Like Ng, the young Malaysian pair also featured at the Arctic Open final that saw them lose in straight games.
Meanwhile, two men’s doubles pairs already made it to the Round of 16, with Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik facing Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi going up against Koga-Saito on Thursday.
Arctic Open champion Lee Zii Jia, who takes to court later against Julien Carraggi, is expected to join them and, if he wins, the world number 11 will most likely go up against top seed Viktor Axelsen.
