The Badminton World Federation (BWF) have cancelled the World Junior Championships, originally scheduled to be staged in New Zealand, due to COVID-19.

The championships could not be postponed to 2021 as there was a host already in place to stage the tournament later next year.

But the New Zealand Badminton Association are still determined to host the junior championships, and they have been given the nod to do so in 2024.

"It seems only fair recognition of their efforts to stage these championships that we award them the 2024 edition. It has been a difficult year during the pandemic but we all look forward to a more consistent international badminton calendar in 2021," said BWF secretary general Thomas Lund.

New Zealand are now set to host the world junior and world senior championships in 2024 and 2025 respectively.

Meanwhile in Malaysia, the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) means the Junior Purple League would not be completed for now.

There were three tournaments left to play, but organisers were left with no choice but to wait until the situation is safe to do so.
