Malaysia ended their 2022 Commonwealth Games mixed team group stage with a perfect record after beating South Africa 5-0 on Saturday.

The national badminton team comprised of a few new combinations, first of which were Aaron Chia-Pearly Tan in the mixed doubles.

The scratch pair had no issues delivering the opening point with a 21-7, 21-8 victory over Jareed Elliot-Deidre Jordaan.

Ng Tze Yong, the only men's singles shuttler in the team, made it 2-0 with a 21-11, 21-8 win over Caden Kakora.

Goh Jin Wei then made it 3-0 with a straightforward 21-5, 21-4 win over Johanita Scholtz in the women's singles.

Chan Peng Soon-Tan Kian Meng converted the next point with a 21-6, 21-9 victory over Elliot-Robert Summers in the men's doubles.

Cheah Yee See-Lai Pei Jing completed the win over the minnows with a 21-18, 21-13 win Scholtz-Jordaan in the women's doubles.

Malaysia had also beaten Jamaica 5-0 in an earlier Saturday match-up to finish as Group 4 champions.

They moved on to the quarter-finals to be played on Sunday, with their opponents to be determined upon completion of all group matches.
