Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun posted big wins over their Chinese opponents, while it was a day to forget for Lee Zii Jia at the China Open first round on Tuesday.
Lee's outing at the Olympics Sports Centre Gymnasium ended after only 29-minutes, after he suffered a 15-21, 2-21 defeat against Koki Watanabe.
That second game saw the Japanese take an incredible 15-0 lead against Lee, who could not do anything right and conceded defeat in mere minutes.
The Paris Olympics bronze medalist had not competed since the Japan Open nearly a month ago, and the lack of competitive action clearly showed in his game.
The world number three kept Watanabe in close attention until the interval of the first game, but it all went south after that.
Lee was making plenty of mistakes, and his failure to read Watanabe's game resulted in the Japanese coasting to victory with any trouble.
It is now back-to-back first round defeats for Lee who also lost at the Japan Open first round.
In the men's doubles, Goh-Izzuddin did not have such troubles as they grinded out an important 17-21, 21-12, 21-19 victory over home pair Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi.
The now professional pair were not at their best, but turned in an efficient performance to overcame the Chinese pair having held their nerve at the end of the final game.
Goh-Izzuddin will take on former national team-mates Yap Roy King-Junaidi Arif in the second round on Thursday.
Man-Tee also overcome a Chinese pair in the first round, beating Xie Hao Nan-Zeng Wei Han 21-17, 21-19.
They could possibly face third seeds Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae in the second round.
In the mixed doubles, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon beat Singaporeans Terry Hee-Jessica Tan 21-13, 21-15 and will next go up against Supak Jomkoh-Supissara Paewsampran.
