Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai made history for themselves after reaching the China Open final courtesy of a straight game victory over their Chinese opponents early Saturday morning.
The Malaysians turned in an impeccable display to eliminate Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi 21-18, 21-18 and book their first ever Super 1000 final.
It has been a great run for the husband-wife combination in the province of Changu, which saw them also oust another Chinese pair Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin in the quarter-finals.
They faced another Chinese pair in their attempt to reach a third final of the year, and gave it as good as it got.
Goh was excellent at the back court, using his experience to dictate the pace of the game with his flat drives and cross-court angled drop-shots which deceived their opponents on occasions.
Lai, too, played a pivotal role to stay sharp at the front court and her deft and delicate touches provided the desired quality for them to come away with the deserved win.
The world number 12 pair, who have already won the Swiss Open and Malaysia Masters this year, will come into Sunday's final confident of securing a third silverware.
Goh-Lai will face the winners of Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emmanuelle Widjaja & Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping.
