China Masters: World champion Ee Wei celebrates birthday with big win

Reigning world champion Toh Ee Wei celebrated her 25th birthday with a big win at the on-going China Masters on Thursday.

Toh and partner Chen Tang Jie turned in a resilient performance to power past Indonesian pair Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu 21-13, 13-21, 21-16 and book their berth in the quarter-finals.

“Officially 25 years old today. Thank you to all those that have supported me throughout my life. I’m excited for what’s ahead and ready to keep chasing my dreams one step at a time,” said Toh via her social media page.

The Malaysians will next face Hong Kong pair Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet for a place in Saturday’s semis.

Men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin also came through after a hard earned 21-16, 22-20 win over Chinese Taipei pair Lee Jhe-hui-Yang Po-hsuan.

The former world number one pair will now come up against Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri.

Meanwhile, national men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao suffered a second consecutive defeat against China's in-form shuttler Li Shi Feng, while Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai also lost in the mixed doubles.
