Canadian star assaulted by unknown man, suffers rib injury

Canadian women’s singles star Michelli Li was assaulted by an unknown man and was bedridden after she lost at the All-England, the shuttler shared her tale on social media.
The world number 20 said the incident happened after she lost in straight games to Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in Birmingham two weeks ago.
“On the same day I lost my match in England, a homeless man/druggie decided my ribs was a good target to swing at as I was walking just outside the hotel. Never thought random attacks would happen to me, but it did and it completely shakes you up.

“I was lucky there were witnesses, so he only got one hit and thank the Lord the guy wasn’t holding a knife or anything sharper,” said Li, who was bed ridden with a rib injury for a few days following the assault.
But Li recovered and was certified healthy to play at the just concluded Swiss Open.
With the help of her Malaysian coach Woon Kok Hong, Li reached the semi-finals of the Super 300 event before losing in three games to Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt.
Reaching the semis marked the 33-year-old’s best outing yet this year.
