Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik turned in a fine performance to march into the BWF World Championships semi-finals courtesy of a 21-18, 21-16 victory over their South Korean opponents on Friday.

The victory also meant they were the only Malaysians left standing in Tokyo after mixed doubles pairs Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai both lost their last-eight encounters.

Chia-Soh were determined, focused and brought the perfect craft of intensity and composure to outwit Choi Sol-gyu-Seo Seung-jae in 40 minutes for their first semi-finals appearance at a world meet.

The world number six pair, who secured a bronze medal finish, next contend against India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in a much-awaited last-four clash on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the other mixed doubles pairs could not replicate Chia-Soh's win as they lost in straight games.

Tan-Lai were picked apart easily 9-21, 9-21 by top seeds Zheng Si Wei -Huang Ya Qiong in a contest that lasted less than half an hour.

Goh-Lai were also no match for third seeds Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino, going down 17-21, 13-21.
