Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin completed a magnificent week in New Delhi by clinching the India Open men’s doubles silverware, saying one of their recipe to success was the sumptuous food they enjoyed.
“We enjoyed the food a lot, butter chicken and garlic naan! This victory means a lot to us and our team. We needed to be patient in the final and glad it worked out,” they said.
The Malaysians made up for the first round exit on home turf at the Malaysia Open last week by turning up in style at the just concluded Super 750 event, which should solidify their position as world number two.
Seeded third, Goh-Sze overcome two Malaysian pairs in the first two rounds, before seeing off a Chinese Taipei pair in the quarter-finals and home favourites Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the semi-finals.
They dropped their first game in the final against South Korea’s new pair Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae, but still were comfortable to claim a 21-15, 13-21, 21-16 for their first win of 2025.
In doing so, the pair also ended a 15-year wait for a men’s doubles title since Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari did it in 2010.
Goh-Izzuddin are still some distance to clinch the world number one ranking from Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, but that is not a number they are desperate to reach so quickly.
“We always have a target, if we perform well our ranking will be higher,” they added.
Goh-Izzuddin have been one of the best pairs since the Paris Olympics.
Last year, they won the Japan Open (Super 750), Arctic Open (Super 500) & China Open (Super 1000) before securing the World Tour Finals silver medal.
