The Uber Cup, which is set to take place simultaneously with the Thomas Cup in Aarhus, Denmark next month, is set to lose some of its luster following the withdrawal of Tai Tzu-ying and P.V. Sindhu.

The two of the biggest names in women’s singles pulled out due to different reasons.

World number Tai will not feature after the Chinese Taipei team pulled out of the team affair in light of the pandemic which continues to affect sports globally.

Reigning world champion Sindhu meanwhile cited personal reasons for their withdrawal, as she is understood to be missing out due to some prayers with her family.

Chinese Taipei's absence will also mean that world number two Chou Tien-chen won’t feature in the men’s singles.

Defending champions China have also indicated they may not participate if they fail to get clearance from their government to travel for the competition.

The Malaysian team are nonetheless firmly set to participate should the event go ahead as planned, despite two postponements so far.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have been in constant communication with the world body regarding safety protocols and travel standard operating procedures.

The Thomas & Uber Cup looked to have got the green light after competing nations were given a pass on undergoing a two-week quarantine upon arrival in Denmark.

That decision also paves the way for the Denmark Open (October 13-18) to go ahead.
