The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have entered into a partnership with the Malaysian Purple League (MPL), which is a professional badminton league founded in 2014.
An official signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between both organisations was held on Thursday.
Norza Zakaria explained the key reason is to develop players who can take Malaysian badminton to another level and represent the country at any international tournaments.
"This is another way for us to search for new talent," said the BAM president.
"I think, in order for us to get the right players, we have to expand our talent base by trying our very best to include other stakeholders.
"The Purple League has done very well and the [participating] clubs have been around for a number of years."
MPL chief executive officer Jack Koh is also looking forward to a fruitful partnership with the BAM.
"It is good that we are able to work together with the [national badminton] governing body," he said.
"This country is not that big, so it is quite tough [if we want] to run parallel leagues.
"[We also need to consider] commercial reasons because sponsors cannot sponsor two leagues at the same time."
