Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) general secretary Kenny Goh dismissed the news about Malaysia hosting the BWF World Tour Finals in 2023.

The rumour began after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) released the 2023 calendar, which showed Malaysia kicking off the season with the Malaysia Open and concluding it with World Tour Finals.

In an interview with Astro Arena, Goh shrugged it off as "a technical issue" and insisted there was no truth in it.

"In the BWF system, a country needs to be placed [for each tournament] because it is a software requirement.

"As the BWF's headquarters is based here, [World Tour Finals] is put in Malaysia as a placeholder, and there is no confirmation yet on the host country for the 2023 edition.

"In fact, I believe there is no confirmation for the 2022 edition as well with rumours going on about China pulling out from hosting it," he said.

Malaysia last hosted the annual tournament, then known as the BWF Super Series Finals, in Kuala Lumpur in 2013.

It also took place in Kota Kinabalu in 2008 and Johor Bahru in 2009.
