The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) were handed a big boost after inking a three-year sponsorship deal with oil and gas company Petronas and its subsidiary Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB).

The sponsorship would see PETRONAS support the training and preparation of the shuttlers in their run-up to the SEA Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian as well as the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The deal would also see the PETRONAS logo be displayed on the national team jerseys, and become title sponsors for the Malaysia Open.

The Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) would also be named after the new sponsors.

BAM president Norza Zakaria said the partnership would help contribute towards the development programmes and the operation of the ABM.

“The timing of this sponsorship is perfect as we are preparing for a series of major competitions. The sponsorship would also benefit the players as we will be able to send more of them, including the youth players for more international tournaments,” he said.

Last year, Yonex signed a five-year RM55 million sponsorship with the BAM, joining existing sponsors BP Healthcare, 100Plus and Sunrise.
