Lee Zii Jia led a fairly large Malaysian representation into the Australian Open quarter-finals after he beat fellow countryman Soong Joo Ven in straight games on Thursday.

Lee converted the 21-18, 21-14 victory in just over 40-minutes to setup a last eight clash against Japanese Kenta Nishimoto, whom he is the favourite to beat on paper.

In the men's doubles, Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal, Yap Roy King-Junaidi Arif and Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai also cleared their rounds in comfortable fashion.

Choong-Haikal will face an Australian pair next, while Yap-Junaidi are up against Chinese Taipei opponents.
Kang-Aaron will however be up against it when they face top seeded He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu.

The mixed doubles is guaranteed one entry into the semi-finals when Choong-Go Pei Kee will square off against Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing on Friday.

Lai will see double action in the women's doubles as well with Lim Chiew Sien after the pair beat their Indian opponents in straight games.

They will next face a Ukrainian pair for a semis berth.
