Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi pulled off an upset result at the 2018 Asian Games as they knocked out world no. 3 pair Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda to reach the men's doubles quarter-finals on Saturday.
The Malaysian shuttlers did not bow under pressure facing the Japanese duo, who recently finished as runners-up at the 2018 BWF World Championships in Nanjing, China, as they secured a 21-14, 21-17 straight-set win at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace.
Ong and Teo will next face either Malaysian Masters winners Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto of Indonesia or South Korea's Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae for a place in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong joined them in the quarter-finals after beating Bikash Shrestha and Nabin Shrestha of Nepal 21-9, 21-12, while Lee Zii Jia was knocked out from the men's singles event by South Korean ace Son Wan-ho, losing 11-21, 17-21.
