Lee Zii Jia has withdrawn from the on-going Denmark Open after not fully recovering from an ankle injury he suffered last week.

“The hope and plan was still for Lee Zii Jia to feature at the Denmark Open even after he suffered an ankle injury during the quarter-finals of the Arctic Open. Zii Jia took to the courts today but discomfort around the ankle is preventing him to move at match-level quality.

“It is with a heavy heart that Zii Jia has to withdraw from this year’s Denmark Open,” read a statement from Team LZJ https://www.instagram.com/p/DBHFMcKyB4j/

This injury setback comes as a blow to the world number four, who has a good record in this Super 750 event having finished as runner-up in the previous two editions.

Lee had lost to two Chinese shuttlers: Shi Yu Qi in the 2022 final before Weng Hong Yang upstaged him in last year’s final.

In Lee’s absence, Leong Jun Hao will fly the Malaysian flag in the men’s singles when he takes on Indonesian Jonatan Christie.
