All England: Thinaah aims to stop trying to kill matches faster
M.Thinaah and partner Pearly Tan have ambitions of shining at the upcoming All-England (March 11-16), and are keen to avoid the tendency of trying to finish their games faster.
The national women’s doubles pair are raring to go at the upcoming European tour, on the back of an impressive performance at last month’s Indonesia Masters which saw them clinch a silver medal.
The world number six pair will first see action at the Orleans Masters (March 4-9), but that Super 300 event in France will merely serve as a warm-up to the prestigious All-England.
“We have not played in a tournament for a month and we are excited to compete in Europe. At the previous All-England matches which we lost, we led those matches many times but ended up losing.
“Back then, we were eager to finish the games faster. We were not patient enough. But we have been learning through training and in tournaments, so we aim to be more calm especially during crucial moments,” Thinaah said.
For the record, Thinaah-Tan have not progressed beyond the quarter-finals of the Super 1000 event in three editions spanning from 2021-2024.
The duo’s preparation this time have been an all-rounded affair, as they have been refining their rotational play, as well as fine tuning their offense and defence.
The All-England draw is scheduled to be out on March 4.
The last Malaysian shuttler to win the world’s oldest badminton tournament was Lee Zii Jia back in 2021.
