Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik promised more BWF World Tour titles to come from them after the national men’s doubles pair turned in a sensational performance to clinch the Denmark Open and end a six-year wait.

Chia-Soh claimed their elusive World Tour success after just 33 minutes against Indonesia’s Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana courtesy of an aggressive display from start to finish that left their error strewn opponents floored.

“There will be more [titles] to come. It’s a total relief, there is no more pressure when we are going to get our first. Now the question is, when is the second one arriving?

“We cannot believe we have not won before. We have made so many finals’ and it did not happen. Now it has, and it is a motivation.

“We always believed and trusted in ourselves. That was most important. Eventhough we won many medals including the World Championships, we always wanted to win the World Tour title,” the pair told SPOTV.

Chia-Soh’s victory also ended Malaysia’s seven-year wait for a champion at the Denmark Open, since former men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong achieved it in 2016.

Against Fikri-Maulana, the Malaysians sprung into offence from the start to unsettle their opponents, which paved the way for the 21-13, 21-17 victory.

It was something the world number four couldn’t do since they were paired in 2017. This year alone, Chia-Soh had reached the India, Indonesia and China Open finals, finishing as runners-up in all.

It remains to be seen if the pair will be physically and mentally up to compete at the French Open next, where they face Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin in the first round.

Meanwhile, there wasn’t a double joy on Sunday for the Malaysian contingent as Lee Zii Jia lost in straight games in the men’s singles final against Weng Hong Yang.

Lee is set to face the Chinese shuttler again in just a few days in the French Open first round.
