Aaron Chia has given a 7.5/10 rating for he and partner Soh Wooi Yik’s performance for the 2024 season, admitting the marks were not higher due to the pair’s performance at the Paris Olympics.
Chia-Soh secured their second Olympics bronze medal in Paris after a dramatic comeback victory over Danish pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, which saw them save four match points in the second game.
But in a recent interview, Chia rated their performance based on the fact they did not reach the Paris Olympics final.
“I would say 7.5. The remaining 2.5 is from the regret at the Olympics, where I felt my performance was not stable enough. In the semi-finals, we lost to Wang Chang-Liang Wei Keng. Our skills were on par, it was just that we failed to seize the critical moments.
“We were under pressure at that time because Malaysia had hoped for us to win the gold medal. But Aaron kept telling me to always believe, to fight for every point, and as long as we believed, good results would come,” the pair said.

Q: How do you define yourselves? Soh Wooi Yik: Actually in terms of competition, we've always been in the top 10 or top 5, consistently maintaining a high level. The Olympics was our goal, and we saw in the Olympics, when we truly showcased our abilities, (cont.) pic.twitter.com/Td5Jz8KHhN

Chia-Soh recently lost their status as the highest ranked Malaysian pair after they were overtaken by Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin who are now third in the world.
But Chia-Soh, who are now ranked sixth, have been consistent this year.
Despite only one win on the World Tour at the Korea Masters, Chia-Soh reached the All-England final and the semis of the India Open and Asia Championships.
They also consistently reached the quarter-finals on the World Tour circuit and remained as a world top five pair for a majority of this year.
