Malaysia’s dream of ending their 26-year Thomas Cup drought was dashed after they lost 1-3 to Indonesia in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
The scratch pair of Aaron Chia and Teo Ee Yi conceded the deciding point after being beaten 18-21, 21-10, 9-21 by 2018 Malaysian Masters winners Fajar Alfian and Rian Ardianto.
It was the third straight point Malaysia conceded after Lee Chong Wei gave his side an early 1-0 lead with a 21-19, 21-16 victory over Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
After that, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong were no match for world no.1 men's double pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo as they lost 19-21, 22-20, 13-21, while Lee Zii Jia crashed to a 15-21, 21-11, 13-21 defeat to Jonatan Christie.
The win saw Indonesia progress to tomorrow’s semi-finals, where they will face China, who comfortably defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0.
The other semi-final match will see the winners of the past two editions, Denmark and Japan, face off against each other.
