Toh Ee Wei has left the country to fix her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury on her left knee, as the national mixed doubles ace reflected on her journey dealing with setbacks.
“In 2018, due to acute sinusitis, I underwent surgery, but my condition worsened, and I had no choice but to leave the national team.
“In 2020, I was diagnosed with bone tuberculosis, which brought my journey into a long and difficult period. I was resting for 18 months without being able to play, going through treatment and rehabilitation. Even today, I still live with long-term back pain because of it.
“In May 2026, I suffered an ACL injury in my knee. At the same time, major competitions are approaching, and the Olympic cycle is less than a year away. This is just another unexpected challenge in my journey. Or perhaps, another test,” she reflected.
But the 25-year-old is refusing to dwell on her condition, but rather work harder to overcome this latest struggle.
Toh is expected to undergo surgery and rehabilitation in this facility, where she is expected to remain there for several weeks.
In Toh's absence, Chen Tang Jie will momentarily team up with teenager Clarissa San.
The pair have been entered for the Japan Open (July 14-19), and they could also feature at the China Open a week later.
The pair are able to compete in this Super 750 and Super 1000 events using Chen’s lofty world ranking of five.
