Malaysian diver Wendy Ng Yan Yee revealed it felt like "the end of the world" when she tested positive for sibutramine during last year's SEA Games.
Despite not being a performance-enhancing drug, it is considered a prohibited in-competition substance under the World Anti-Doping Code.
As a result, the 24-year-old was stripped off her two gold medals and could face a ban from all diving competitions for up to two years.
She confessed it was too much for her to handle at first.
"When I first received the news of what happened, I could not accept the fact," Ng told Astro Arena in an exclusive interview.
"I shut everything and everyone out and locked myself in my room. I kept crying and asking why it happened to me.
"It felt like the end of the world."
However, she said she is doing better now, thanking her grandmother for keeping her company during the difficult period.
Despite the setback, she vowed she would not give up her diving career.
"There is still a lot of medals I want to achieve," she added.
"My dream since childhood is to represent the country and I want to continue carrying the Malaysian flag to international competitions."
