WVU coach Bob Huggins rips officiating after being ejected in loss to Kansas
Coach Bob Huggins blasted the officiating after West Virginia's 77-69 loss to Kansas Saturday, saying referees should have to answer post-game questions.
The Mountaineers coach had been ejected in the closing seconds after he argued a call, cursing at an official.
After the game, Huggins told reporters that referees should be held accountable for their officiating.
"Why aren't (the referees) in here answering your questions?" Huggins said. "We're gonna bring 19-21 year olds in here that don't get paid and you're gonna ask them questions... because (the referees) don't want to get asked 'why didn't you call this?'"
Huggins' anger had been building even before his ejection, as officials whistled WVU for 26 fouls, compared to 14 for Kansas. The Jayhawks shot 35 free throws, compared to two for West Virginia.
"I've never been in a game where the free-throw (attempts) disparity … was 35-2," Huggins said.
No. 20 WVU fell to 19-8 (8-6 in the Big 12) with the loss, while No. 13 Kansas improved to 21-6 (10-4).
