Malaysian figure skater Julian Yee put on his best short program routine at PyeongChang 2018 on Friday.

Performing to "To Build a Home", the 20-year-old bagged 38.37 points for technical elements and 35.21 for presentation, making it a total of 73.58.

It was his new personal best for the short program, beating his 72.59 points set at the 2016 CS Nebelhorn Trophy.

Although at the time of writing it placed him just outside the qualification for tomorrow's free skate, which will begin at 9am Malaysian time, with the short program still ongoing, Yee still stands a chance to make the final cut.

Currently leading the pack is the Czech Republic's Michal Brezina (85.15), followed closely by Canadian figure skater Keegan Messing (85.11).

However, Japanese star Yuzuru Hanyu, who set a world record of 101.45 in the men's short program en route to Olympic gold four years ago, is expected to top the standings later.

Yee was the first Malaysian figure skater to qualify for the Winter Olympics and the second overall after alpine skier Jeffrey Webb.
