WADA recommends use of older doping test kits at Pyeongchang Olympics

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has recommended against using new drug testing kits at the 2018 Winter Olympics because of a potential security issue.

The IOC had asked WADA to investigate the new generation BEREG-KIT Geneva security bottles after a laboratory in Cologne reported they could be opened following freezing.

WADA has confirmed the new bottles, introduced in September 2017 by Berlinger, are susceptible to manual opening without tampering.

And it has recommended to the IOC to use the earlier model BEREG-KIT released in 2016 for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

These kits reported no issues akin to that of the new edition and WADA has sourced enough to cover the anti-doping testing program in Pyeongchang.
