Vonn completes Garmisch-Partenkirchen downhill double

Lindsey Vonn completed a Garmisch-Partenkirchen downhill double on Sunday to set her up perfectly for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Vonn claimed victory by 0.02seconds from Sofia Goggia on Saturday, but her winning advantage was slightly increased 24 hours later, the American taking top spot by 0.11secs from the Italian.

World Cup win number 81 for Vonn came in one minute 37.92secs and reinforces the belief she is hitting form just in time to claim a second Olympic gold medal.

Back in 2010, Vonn was triumphant in the downhill in Vancouver but was unable to defend that crown in Sochi due to injury.

Having seemingly put those injury problems behind her, Vonn looks in fine form heading to South Korea – which she has stated as her number one goal for the season.

Goggia is likely to push her all the way after another impressive performance, the seventh podium of the World Cup across the disciplines.

She remains top of the downhill standings after Sunday's second place, but her advantage is now just 23 points after Vonn's perfect weekend.

Tina Weirather is also within one win of catching Goggia after she took the final place on the podium, narrowly missing out on second place by 0.01secs.
