An emotional Nur Dhabitah Sabri poured her heart out after the conclusion of the women's three-metre springboard final at the 2020 Olympic Games.

The 22-year-old scored 326.15 points to finish fourth in Sunday's event, missing out on a bronze medal finish as she was beaten to the podium by American diver Krysta Palmer (343.75 points).

The top two spots were occupied by China's Shi Tingmao (383.50 points) and Wang Han (348.75 points).

Despite the narrow loss, she insisted that a medal finish wasn't on her mind at all.

"I didn't think of finishing in the top three or top six, as I just wanted to finish my dives and enjoy my game.

"I'm crying now not because I am sad of not winning, but I'm really proud of myself because the last few months were very hard for me.

"I lost myself before the Olympics, I lost my confidence and everything went downhill. Even a few weeks before the Olympics, I wasn't sure about myself.

"[Due to the lockdown in Malaysia] we no longer live like the old days where we could go home and have fun with our friends, and we just spent our time in the sports bubble and train everyday.

"I miss my family and friends but I cannot be with them, so I kind of lost myself.

"The fact that I performed well and got fourth, I'm really proud of myself," she told Astro Arena's Adam Zamri after the event.

Nur Dhabitah also felt that her Tokyo 2020 experience would be beneficial to her in the long run.

"I am still young and my journey is still long. I may not be able to bring home a medal but I will be bringing home valuable experience, so I don't feel I'm going home empty-handed," she added.

The Malaysian diving contingent continues its medal hunt with Pandelela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong taking on the women's 10-metre platform challenge starting Wednesday.
